AUSTRIA: Daikin has supplied two screw inverter chillers operating on Low GWP HFO refrigerant R1234ze to a major pharmaceutical company’s facility in Vienna, Austria.

The two EWAH-TZ chillers with a total cooling capacity of 580kW replace a 15-year-old R410A chiller with remote air-cooled condensers. The refrigerant charge in the old chiller was very high and the reciprocating compressor only had four capacity steps.

The end user decided to replace it with more advanced technology, seeking greater energy efficiency and environmentally friendliness.

The project required an environmentally-friendly HVAC concept and the consultant was impressed with Daikin’s screw inverter solutions using its reliable and energy efficient in-house developed HFO screw compressor.

The chiller will be used to produce chilled water/glycol mixture at -8°C, which will provide cooling for microbiological processes. The cooling requirement varies from approximately 70kW to 570kW.

Another important aspect was the noise reduction. The project required a maximum sound power of 81dBA. That requirement was addressed thanks an optimisation of the reduced sound configuration in the TZ Series.
