UK: Daikin UK has teamed up with interior designer and TV presenter Laurence Llewellyn-Bowen for a campaign to raise consumer awareness of heat pumps.
The campaign, called ‘Essentials for a Modern Home’, will run until the end of the year and aims to position heat pumps as a key component of every low carbon home.
The campaign is backed by Daikin research, which surveyed 2,000 homeowners and renters about their expectations of a modern home. According to the study, 81% of respondents believe that features such as a heat pump, electric vehicle charging point and solar panels are now a must-have for a modern home, and 90% agree that they are a key consideration for homebuyers.
While 94% believe everyone has a responsibility to protect the environment for future generations, 81% would like their current home to be more environmentally friendly, 71% do not know how to improve their environmental impact.
And while 91% think the government should do more to stop the use of fossil fuels in UK homes, heat pumps scored a relatively low 18% among the eco-conscious generation. Things like solar panels (44%), triple glazed windows (43%), top-notch insulation (36%), smart lighting (36%) and electric vehicle charging stations (28%) were considered more desirable if money is no object had meaning.
“The research clearly shows that homeowners and renters are becoming more environmentally aware,” commented Daikin UK’s director of new residential business, Iain Bevan. “However, the government needs to work with the industry to educate people about the benefits of heat pumps and dispel the many myths about them. The heat pump industry doesn’t have the resources to do this on its own.”
