GERMANY: A new survey of German plumbing, heating and air conditioning installers found that heat pumps accounted for about 26% of their business in 2022.

A study by the Bonn-based EUPD Research among 351 German installers confirms that heat pumps, especially air-to-water heat pumps, are playing an increasingly important role in the installers’ portfolio.

After record sales in 2022, 91,500 heating heat pumps were sold in the first quarter of the year, up 110% year-on-year.

Connecting a heat pump to a PV system was considered in 37% of installations as either a new installation or as a connection of a new heat pump to an existing PV system. While the combination of these technologies has obvious advantages, combining the two technologies can be a problem for installers as too many manufacturers are reported to be using different, incompatible systems.
