USA: Daikin Comfort Technologies North America has announced a scholarship program in partnership with the US Major League Baseball (MLB) team Houston Astros.

The Daikin Most Valuable STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) Scholarship Program will award $10,000 scholarships to ten Houston high school seniors.

The STEAM Scholarship will be awarded annually in recognition of the role that a comprehensive curriculum plays in developing innovative, creative and critical thinking skills.

“The Astros Foundation is excited to team up with Daikin to invest in Houston’s future leaders who will pursue higher education,” said Emelda Douglas, senior vice president of public affairs for the Houston Astros and executive director of the Astros Foundation. “By supporting these talented students, we give them the opportunity to focus their passion and creativity on making a positive impact in our community and beyond.”

The STEAM curriculum goes beyond traditional science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) programming to include the arts. This includes fine arts, language arts, manual arts such as architecture and landscape design, physical arts, and humanities.

Through STEAM learning, students develop the ability to think outside the box and solve problems using the creativity and technical knowledge they acquired in high school and college.

Daikin acquired the naming rights to the Houston Astros stadium in November. The contract agreement calls for the stadium to be renamed Daikin Park for the next 15 years.
