BELGIUM: Daikin Europe has announced the launch of Altherma 4 H, the first range of domestic heat pumps using R290 (propane) refrigerant.
First announced last year, today’s launch promises a range of 6, 8, 10, 12 and 14kW units in single and three-phase versions.
The Daikin Altherma 4 H is claimed to deliver hot water up to 75°C and can operate at temperatures as low as -28°C. It has an A+++ rating for space heating and up to A+ for domestic hot water.
The largest 14 kW unit delivers 13.3 kW of heating power even at -7 °C ambient temperature and 55 °C leaving water temperature.
According to Daikin, this makes it the most efficient domestic heat pump of its kind available today.
Noise levels are reported to have dropped to just 28 dBA at 3m.
Daikin has implemented a number of safety features such as a gas separator, factory installed antifreeze valves, a sealed junction box and a gas sensor with automatic fan control.
The units use a microchannel heat exchanger, which allows reducing the refrigerant charge to approximately 1–1.25 kg.
The new intuitive interface simplifies heat pump setup and is plug-and-play, allowing installers to remotely configure settings without the need for a site visit. End users can monitor the unit’s energy consumption and adjust home temperatures using the Daikin Onecta app.
All Daikin domestic heat pumps, including the Altherma 4 H, are designed and manufactured in Europe. The outdoor units are manufactured at Daikin’s new factory in Lodz, Poland, while the indoor components of the heat pump system are manufactured in the Czech Republic and Germany.
Installer training
Daikin will support the launch with extensive installer training programmes covering installation, commissioning, maintenance and repair.
