United Kingdom: Daikin UK is set to introduce curriculum-linked climate education to schools in Greater Manchester under a new partnership with climate education specialist Generation C.
Supported by Greater Manchester United, the initiative aims to bridge the gap in environmental skills and sustainable education by directly linking classroom learning with sustainable careers in the growing green economy.
The project aims to turn climate anxiety into positive action by giving students aged 7–14 a clearer vision of a sustainable future.
Developed by Generation C in collaboration and consultation with Daikin UK experts, the programme will feature unique learning resources based on real Daikin stories that integrate into the national STEAM curriculum.
Students will explore energy-efficient technologies such as air-to-water heat pumps and gain insight into career paths in the renewable energy and heating, ventilation and air conditioning sectors.
The programme, which is based on the Generation C approach to combining education with industry, is initially being launched in two pilot schools in Greater Manchester – Butterstyle Primary School in Prestwich and St Ambrose Barlow Secondary School in Swinton – before being rolled out across the region.
“Achieving widespread adoption of solutions like heat pumps requires a skilled workforce for the future. Partnering with Generation C, with the vital support of GMCA, allows us to invest directly in the next generation here in Greater Manchester. We want to showcase exciting career opportunities and help build the talent pipeline needed to help the UK transition to net-zero emissions,” said Tomoji Miki, Managing Director of Daikin UK.
“Climate change and our transition as a society to a more sustainable lifestyle is a significant challenge, but education is crucial to finding effective solutions because it sparks curiosity, fosters innovation and can energize the wider community,” said Generation C co-founder Phil Wharton.
“We need to empower the next generation, show them the positive impact they can have and give them the practical skills to find relevant career roles. Partnering with industry visionaries like Daikin, supported by GMCA’s strategic understanding, allows us to provide young people in Greater Manchester with real hope, purpose and the tools to build a sustainable future.”
