ELGIUM: Daikin Europe has signed a two-year partnership with the city of Ghent and Ghent University to develop innovation in the field of heat pumps.
The agreement will focus on energy efficiency, smart climate technologies, sustainable urban development and social interaction. This will include research, knowledge exchange and joint initiatives.
In particular, they will explore pilot projects involving the use of small collective heat pumps and low-noise systems. This will also include the role of heat pumps in future district heating networks and the installation of heat pumps in existing buildings.
Daikin Europe recently opened a new €140 million EMEA Development Center in Ghent, a city located 70 km southeast of the company’s Ostend plant.
This partnership builds on previous joint projects. The City of Ghent and Ghent University have previously collaborated on the fossil-free Muide-Meulestede and Mariakerke projects. Daikin and Ghent University, on the other hand, have already collaborated on funding heat pump research in the Ghent region.
“As an international heating and cooling technology company with strong roots in Ghent, we want to actively contribute to the creation of a low-carbon city,” said Wim De Schacht, Vice President of Service and Solutions and Corporate Communications at Daikin Europe. “The city will become a testing ground for innovation, and we will use our expertise in heat pump systems and components to make a difference in Ghent.”
